Perfectionism-ish-ness

Perfectionism-ish-ness

Inspiration:
Let me think, let me think, what is the perfect thing to say here? I’ll come back to it after I’ve crafted it a bit and got it just right.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Perfectionism-ish-ness
“The perfect poem”?
–No, no, no, that’s not right.

“A poem on perfection”?
–Meh, that doesn’t sound tight.

“Cleanliness is next to…”?
–That’s way too abstract.

What if I leave it blank?
–No one will get it, that’s wack!

I need something cool,
something hip, that fits in.

“The rad, boss, catchy poem”?
–Stupid!…Donner and Blitzen?

Now my mind’s on a tangent,
perfection is so hard to win!

Once I get down the title,
I’ll be able to begin!

HappIness

HappIness

Inspiration:
Pondering the true source of happiness – materialism!

Medium:

HappIness
Is happiness just the absence of pain?
The lack of problems to throw off my day?

Or is it the abundance of things you can buy,
like a house on a hill with a roof to the sky?

Perhaps it’s a life full of pleasure and ease,
doing whatever I want whenever I please.

Or maybe it’s all of the prizes I’ve won,
the trophies on walls, the things that I’ve done.

But could it be more than easy ease or lacking lack?
Well, if that’s the case, I want my money back!

Unwanted

Unwanted

Inspiration:
I noticed a few years back that the ruminating thoughts that often come during dark times actually seem to lend themselves to coming up with rhymes. (Ok, that one was accidental, I promise!) So why not try to use your trials and weaknesses to do some good? Take advantage of them, put them to work!

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Unwanted
I don’t really want you here.
But I write better when you’re around,
the uninvited guest put to work
to beautify the grounds.

If you insist on coming
over here to play,
I insist on you helping
me to write today.

And help you will, and stop I won’t,
til you tire of this and cease
your dark, twisted, whining whisper
and leave me to be at peace.

Poemetry

Poemetry

Inspiration:
Just rhyming upon rhymery.

Poemetry
The prolific poet
once did wrote
    a poem upon a rhyme,

and yet so absurd
were his words,
you had to read it seven times

before you ever
understood a clever
  word or malformed sentence,

and whether he, too,
was smarter than you,
    or insulted your intelligence.

Brainstorm

Brainstorm

Inspiration:
I like to brainstorm ideas a lot. There’s something almost fun about coming up with new ideas and solutions (much more fun than actually implementing all the work to put those ideas into action!). I have tons of pages in notebooks and journals filled with my brainstorms on different subjects. One day I wondered what it would be like to be caught in a brainstorm without an umbrella, and this was the result.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Brainstorm
I got caught in a brainstorm
one cloudless, clear blue day,
without an umbrella handy
for ideas that rained my way.

It started with a cloudy mind,
sprinkled with new thoughts.
Soon a downpour deluged my brain,
and drenched what I’d been taught.

Then from the deepest, darkest cloud,
lightning struck me with a jolt,
and I knew then, and still know now,
what I didn’t before the bolt.

Then ’twas gone as quick as it came,
and I stood grateful for the chance
to know the new I never thought,
the revere of happenstance.

I tried to go inside to share,
but was told to wait outside
until my thoughts and mind and soul
had all completely dried.

So I waited til my clothes looked dry,
and went in to play their game.
And though not different on outward glance,
inside, I was never the same.
