Mountains

Mountains

Inspiration:
Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Mountains
If you could fast-forward time,
would mountains’ lives go as fast as mine?

Would they rise and fall, ebb and flow?
Would they breathe sands of time and drifting snow?

Oh the stellar shows they must have seen,
far beyond the city’s gleam,

when Scorpius bats, and Orion pitches,
nighttime battles, wounds and stitches.

So, what do they do when their nose itches?

Birdsong

Birdsong

Inspiration:
That time a bird flew into our house and made it’s way upstairs into my home office. I had to open a window and try to coax it out to freedom, but it fought against me every flap of the way. (Probably had seen the movie Storks, and thought I was trying a “power move”!)

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Birdsong
Oh free birdsong of the night
that calls lonely into twilight,
what keeps you from flying to the sun?
oh yeah, gravity, and a lack of oxygen.

Twist

Twist

Inspiration:
Pondering the perplexing paradox of present haPPiness. And I was probably hungry too.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Twist
What’s the difference between
a paradox and a paradise?
One twists unexpectedly
and the other is quite nice.

If you want both, then
give a pretzel to a friend.
For happiness must be sent out
to be received in the end.

Wise

Wise

Inspiration:
I just really wanted to end a poem with “wise guy”.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Wise
Who keeps spinning the clock?
The hands seem to fly!
The mirror doesn’t reflect
what I feel inside.

My body’s getting older,
buy my spirit is young and spry!
I can’t depend on my youth,
so on my brain I must rely!

And with age comes wisdom,
(you don’t even have to try!)
I know, ’cause my wife says
that I’m a real wise guy!

Elementary

Elementary

Inspiration:
No doubt something absurd, like pondering the physics of weight gain.

Medium:
Pigmented ink pen and colored pencils.

Elementary
Which particle am I most like
If you split an atom in three?

Electrons are always negative-
that’s not the world I see.

Nor like a proton am I,
with unceasing positivity.

If neither plus nor minus,
what else could I be?

Neutrons have the most mass-
Yep, that’s me!
